About the surgeon

Bone and joint care, from first X-ray to full recovery

Dr. Sk Moinuddin completed MBBS at PG Hospital and MS in Orthopaedics at Burdwan Medical College. Over ten years of practice he has performed more than ten thousand successful surgeries, with a focus on complex trauma, joint replacement and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery.

He treats patients across Bardhaman district at three chambers, and operates at Life Care Nursing Home and BIMS Hospital. Every case starts the same way — an unhurried examination, the right imaging, and a plain explanation of what is broken and what it will take to fix it. Surgery is recommended only when it is genuinely the better option.

Total joint replacement

Knee, hip and shoulder replacement for advanced arthritis and irreparable joint damage, including revision surgery.

Arthroscopy — keyhole surgery

ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, shoulder instability and sports injuries through small incisions, with faster recovery.

Complex trauma surgery

Multiple and open fractures, pelvic and long-bone injuries, non-union and malunion correction, external and internal fixation.

Fracture management

Plating, nailing, closed reduction and plaster care for adults and children, with scheduled X-ray follow-up until union.

Spine and back pain

Conditions treated

What to see an orthopaedic surgeon for

If any of these sound familiar, an examination and an X-ray usually settle the question quickly.

  • Knee pain and swelling
  • Hip pain, difficulty walking
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Road traffic injuries
  • Sports and ligament injuries
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Low back pain and sciatica
  • Neck and cervical pain

  • Gout and high uric acid
  • Osteoporosis and weak bones
  • Slow-healing or non-union fractures
  • Bow legs and club foot in children
  • Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Carpal tunnel and hand pain
Emergency: For a serious accident, an open wound, heavy bleeding or a limb that cannot bear weight, go to the nearest hospital emergency department first. Call the chamber afterwards to arrange follow-up.

Your visit

What to bring, and what happens

A consultation is more useful when the old papers come with you. Bring everything, even reports you think are irrelevant.

Tip: Carry the original X-ray or MRI films, not only the report. The surgeon needs to see the images to plan treatment.
  1. Book by phone or WhatsAppSay which chamber suits you and describe the problem in one line. You will be told the day and time to come.
  2. Bring your recordsOld X-rays, MRI or CT films, blood reports, discharge summaries and the list of medicines you currently take.
  3. Examination and imagingA physical examination, and a fresh X-ray if needed. Most orthopaedic diagnoses are made in this step.
  4. The plan, explainedWhat the problem is, what the options are, what surgery would involve, and the honest recovery time — in Bengali or Hindi if that is easier.
  5. Treatment and follow-upMedication, physiotherapy or surgery, with review dates set so healing is checked rather than assumed.

Common questions

Questions patients ask before surgery

General answers only. Your own timeline depends on your age, your bone quality and the exact injury — the surgeon will tell you what applies to you.

How soon can I walk after a knee replacement?
Most patients stand and take a few steps with a walker within a day or two of surgery, under supervision. Walking indoors without support usually comes back over four to six weeks, and most people feel close to normal by three months. Doing the prescribed physiotherapy matters more than anything else here.
How long does a joint implant last?
Modern knee and hip implants last fifteen to twenty years or more in the majority of patients. Weight, activity level and bone quality all affect it. If an implant does wear out, revision surgery is possible.
How long will I be in plaster?
Four to six weeks is typical for most adult fractures, and often less in children, whose bones heal faster. The decision to remove it is made on a follow-up X-ray, not on the calendar alone.
Can I play sport again after ACL surgery?
Yes, in most cases. Returning to running usually takes about three to four months and returning to competitive sport around six to nine months, provided rehabilitation is completed properly. Going back early is the commonest reason a reconstructed ligament fails.
Will I definitely need surgery?
No. A large share of orthopaedic problems — early arthritis, most back pain, frozen shoulder, many simple fractures — are managed with medication, injection, physiotherapy or plaster. Surgery is advised when the alternative would leave you with lasting pain, deformity or loss of function.
What tests are needed before an operation?
Usually routine blood tests, blood sugar, an X-ray of the affected part, an ECG, and a physician's fitness clearance for older patients or anyone with heart, kidney, diabetes or blood pressure problems. Additional imaging such as MRI or CT is ordered only where it changes the plan.
How many days will I stay in hospital?
Roughly three to five days for a joint replacement, one to two days for most fracture fixations, and often a day-care stay for arthroscopy. Diabetes, an open wound or other medical conditions can extend it.
Can I come for a second opinion?
Yes, and it is welcome — especially before a joint replacement. Bring the original films and any advice you have already been given in writing, so that the two opinions can be compared properly.
